Gareth’s Pick #13: Jean-Baptiste Elissalde

It is no secret that Fourie du Preez is the best scrumhalf in the world.  I was in awe of him this weekend as he slotted straight back into top form against Scotland and was easily the best player on the field.

In fact, I don’t think much of the other scrumhalves that will be heading to the World Cup.  Pichot (over the hill), Stringer (a fighter, but not classy enough), Perry (you having a laugh), Peel (inconsistent), Kelleher (another loose forward), Gregan (over there with Pichot), Blair and Cusiter (not quite up there) are all good players, but I couldn’t pick any of them with real confidence.

I toyed with the idea of picking Ruan Pienaar or Brendon Leonard, but in the end I gave up on them due to a lack of experience and plumped for the cool class of Jean-Baptiste Elissalde.  He kicks well, his service is good and he has that French flair to get my vote.

Good choice…..Gareth you must put Josh Lewsey on the wing.He is probably the best wing on defense in the world.

Oohhh… Josh Lewsey! That would be going against everything i believe in! It’s not so much that I dislike him (which i do) it’s the whole hype they make over him over there that irks me. He’s like a rugby-playing Tim Henman.

How about Rougerie on that other wing?

If you look at wings, there’s actually no way around it. Has to be a finisher. As far a try scoring records go and impact on a game, has to be Rocokoko. No other wing in the world shares the same all round ability and class. There’s a little saying about how form is temporary, and class is forever. Think Rocokoko will show why Henry picked him with such little game time, and one of the most hottly contested positions within the All Blacks.

    Has to be Gareth’s pick

Now I know why you stay Anonymous, Anonymous. Josh Lewsey is definitely not near good enough for a world team. Rokocoko is a much better bet for sure.

Does it matter what my name is.Put him in with those players and he will operate.Just my opinion.Put any wing in a one on one situation…i dont think there are many that will get past Lewesy.Put Rokocoko in the England team and he will be so shit….how many cross cover tackles has Lewesy had to pull off in his career.Ask Jean Devilliers he knows all about it.You have your choice i have mine…but one thing im sure of is that Josh is a very good player in a shit team with a kicking flyhalf….go figure.

The argentinian Juan Martin Hernandez is an amazing fullback. I rate him the best in the world together with Latham. Think you should pick him for the 15 jersey.

I personally think Juan Martin Hernandez is the best fullback in the world right now.

El Mago… the magician at 15 for sure…

What about Rory Lamont? He was awesome against us! Although you guys seem to be talking this Argentine up pretty well so go for Hernandez.
Percy definately at the back but you need a second Fullback if Percy is there because he is so limited and has gotten very slow. So Lamont or Hernandez or Lewsey. Rokockoco is good but you basically have everything he offers already in Sivivatu.

I agree with worldcup95……Percy and Josh lewesy.
